WAF - Any serious open-source solutions out there, aside of mod_security based ones?

As the title suggests, I'm curious if there are any really serious open-source WAF's out there that are not based on mod_security and/or not abandonware?
The bigger ones (F5, Microsoft etc.) are IMHO overpriced for what they can do/offer and not open-source
What are your suggestions?
