Dell Is Investigating Data Breach That Allegedly Leaked Info of over 10,000 Employees
- A threat group that goes by the name grep" posted on a hacking forum claiming that they have stolen the data of 10,000+ Dell employees.
- Dell has acknowledged this claim and said that its security team is investigating the allegations.
- Dell was hit by a cyberattack earlier this year, too, and it compromised the data of 49 million users.
Dell has confirmed that it's now investigating claims about a breach that apparently exposed the data of over 10,000 employees and their partners.
We are aware of the claims and our security team is currently investigating," the company said in response to the claims.
The claims were made yesterday by a threat group called grep." They posted on a hacking forum, saying that they had stolen certain information about the tech giant's employees.
The stolen data includes full names, employees' unique identifiers, current status of employment, and an internal identification string. The threat group even shared a small sample of the stolen data for free. Even worse, malicious users can access the link to the entire database by spending just 1 BreachForums credit, which costs approximately $0.30.
Dell's May AttackJust earlier this year, in May, Dell had to deal with another breach. It was confirmed that the data of 49 million Dell users was compromised, which included their usernames, addresses, information about their Dell devices, and other order information.
The hacker responsible for this hasn't been officially identified, but a group called Menelik had posted on the dark web claiming responsibility for it.
However, the post was soon deleted, which usually happens when someone buys the stolen data. We were, unfortunately, unable to verify whether they were talking about the same data breach.
Grep's Attack on CapgeminiNow, speaking of the attacker who claimed responsibility for the breach this time around, Dell isn't its first victim.
On September 9, 2024, the group claimed that they had also stolen data from Capgemini, a renowned IT giant. The stolen data (almost 20 GB) included source codes, private keys, API keys, credentials, and T-Mobile virtual machine logs. Most of this data was leaked for free.
