Linux Mint Update & Google OS for older Dell Laptop

I need to Update my Linux Mint and the Google OS for a usable Chrome (or still a Chromium browser?) on my older Dell laptop.
As an out-of-date-Newbie to Mint, the ongoing changes seem overwhelming to this now-often-offline 84-year-old, so patient help would really be appreciated.
