Cardano Founder Labels Ethereum as a Dictatorship Under Vitalik Buterin’s Influence
Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, explored the Ethereum blockchain's overall functionalities and roadmap, saying it's overly reliant on Vitalik Buterin.
Hoskinson labeled Ethereum as a dictatorship" under the influence of Vitalik Buterin, the network's 30-year-old co-founder.
The Cardano founder said Buterin laid out Ethereum's roadmap and still exerts much influence on its governance model. He believes suchdependence defeats the blockchain's decentralization claims.
Hoskinson Tags Ethereum a Dictatorship Under Buterin's ControlDuring an interview at the just-concluded TOKEN2049 event in Singapore, Charles Hoskinson said Ethereum is overly dependent on Vitalik Buterin.
According to the Cardano founder, Ethereum is a dictatorship controlled by Buterin. He mentioned that Ethereum's overdependence on its co-founder has compromised its claims of decentralization in the industry.
Further, Hoskinson explained that Ethereum's overall vision and functionalities revolve around the 30-year-old Buterin. He maintained that Buterin is the brain behind Ethereum's roadmap and inspiration for any project.
He claims that Buterin is the only person with what it takes to gather people to the Ethereum blockchain. Cardano's founder believes Ethereum will crumble without Buterin's influence and direction.
Hoskinson said: If you were to remove him from the equation right now, what's the next hard fork going to look like, and how quickly can they get there?"
To illustrate his points, Hoskinson noted how Buterin changed Ethereum's roadmap from sharding-based optimization of the base chain. Instead, he directed the network to focus on enhancing scalability by inculcating layer-2 projects and rollups.
Again, Hoskinson said Buterin's attraction to L2 led Ethereum developers to adopt the concept. This move introduced some L2 and zero-knowledge (zk) projects into the Ethereum blockchain, including Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon zk, Base, and others.
Subsequently, many have criticized the Ethereum roadmap for supporting extractive L2s and sparking a decline in L1 activity and fee revenue.
He criticized Ethereum's governance model, noting that every initiative starts with Buterin writing a blog to convince developers to adopt it.
Hoskinson Says Cardano Solves Governance TrilemmaThe IOHK founder stated: Where does this idea of embracing layer 2s or rollups come from? Was it some random Ethereum engineer - or was it Vitalik Buterin writing a blog post about it, talking about it, and advocating for it.
On the other hand, according to Hoskinson, Cardano network functions differently from most blockchains. He noted that blockchains must choose a functionality trend, consciously or not, through their governance model.
According to the founder, while some go for simplicity like Bitcoin, others pick a king" for direction. However, he mentioned that Cardano stands out by solving the governance trilemma of efficiency, effectiveness, and integrity.
Notably, Cardano relies on delegated representatives (Dreps) and Intersect (a members-based organization) to handle complex governance topics subject to voting.
Further, the founder noted that overcoming the governance trilemma helps avoid the anarchy and dictatorship seen in Bitcoin and Ethereum. He also pointed out that Cardano's Voltaire-era governance is the key to dispelling centralization in the Cardano ecosystem.
The Chang hard fork's completion supported the Voltaire era launch on September 1 on the Cardano network. This governance model allows ADA holders to select Dreps to manage the network.
Hoskinson mentioned that Cardano's current governance model functions effectively with or without an active founder.
