Linux, talk me out of it or rest me asure/convince me

Im saving for a pc to build myself, first up is the tower for about 3500 euro budget, note Ive not had a pc sinds 2008.
I did 9 months of first year IT education in 2007.
Ive barely toughed a mouse or key b sinds then.
been on everything exept pc either bc of budget, or simplicit reasons.
Im consider myself relitively up 2 date considering how data is shared and i like to as little data as possible but i still want to be able to play video games , use mods, use emulators, record/eddit music and videos, do paperwork ect.
I know i cant have my cake and eat it, i just want to keep a lid on things and stay mostly free from "give me all your data or no service 4u" software
That being said, idk where to start, is my hardware compatible? What software can and cant i use?
I have no ideah how to find all this... so mutch chaff.
Ive been reeducating myself on computers for months now tailoring my tower and squeezing my budget in theory and im looking at all options And idk sqat about linux.
My question at the end is.
Shall i skip windows and go linux while i am getting reaquainted and booting my first self build pc?......or wait and rethink it until ive a had some months in with windows? Bc linux is starting to look appealing but idk if i can handle it with my brain or if its really for me
(Note im not going to order parts until december.
