Last week, a worrying email reached many Google users that led them to believe that they might have been hacked.

The email notified users about a new card" being added to their Google account. However, since the users hadn't made any changes to their account firsthand, they felt they were hacked.

The new card" varied from user to user. In some cases, old and even expired payment methods were shown to be re-added as new cards" and in some other cases, the cards that were currently being used were shown as newly added".

Some users also reported that the emails were sent to them repeatedly. On the other hand, however, some of the account holders didn't receive any message at all.

A handful of users took to Reddit to share their experiences. They were so worried that they either changed their password or deleted their cards from the app entirely.

Google has addressed the issue and said that the notification was an error caused by a bug, not a hack.
