Amazon Prime Video Introduces X-Ray Recaps: Personalized AI Summaries to Revise TV Shows/Movies
- Amazon has introduced a new tool called X-Ray Recaps for its Prime Video users.
- This tool will create AI-generated summaries up to the exact minute where you stopped watching the show/movie so that when you resume, you can jump right back in.
- For now, it's available to Fire TV users in the U.S. in beta mode. However, we can expect an international rollout later this year.
Amazon has something interesting for all its Prime Video users. You can now get AI-generated personalized recaps of TV shows and movies with a new tool called X-Ray Recap.
The name might ring a bell because this feature is an extension of an existing one called X-Ray. It shows you information about the cast and interesting trivia about a scene while you're watching a movie/TV show on the platform.
X-Ray Recap takes this a full step further and gives you complete recaps. Read on to find out the true capabilities of Amazon's new tool for streamers and whether it's truly as exciting as it sounds.
What Is the New Tool? We've all been there - we start a TV show or a movie but then leave it midway (for important or unimportant reasons) and then week goes by and we just don't remember where we left it.
We forget a lot of details about the characters and the last episode that we watched. Additionally, we might even struggle with finding the exact point we left the show at.This is where Amazon's X-Ray Recap comes in.
It creates a personalized summary of everything you have watched until that point, so you can resume watching that particular piece of content without missing a beat or having to rewatch the entire thing.
The burning question, however, is what will the summary include? We haven't seen a demo yet, but according to Amazon, it'll contain short textual snippets of key cliffhangers" and details about character-driven plots.
The best part is that you can use the tool under multiple circumstances. Whether you've left the show running while you take a coffee break for 5 minutes or you're tuning in again after a week, you can get recaps in both these instances.
Plus, you don't have to worry about X-Ray Recap accidentally giving you spoilers, as it has been specially trained to avoid spoilers at all costs.

How to Use the Feature?X-Ray Recap will be available to all Prime users at no additional cost. To access it, you can open the show/movie's details page or the X-Ray tab (the one you previously used for getting cast information) while you're watching.
You'll also get three recap options to choose from: a recap of the entire episode, an entire season, or the last season.
However, for now, this feature is only available to Fire TV customers in the U.S., and that too, in the beta mode. Amazon is planning for a wider global rollout by the end of the year.
Is Amazon's X-Ray Recap Safe to Use?It's natural to worry about the safety credentials of an AI-driven feature. After all, the market today is rife with sinister data collection practices, with companies and AI tools after customer data to make their features and marketing more efficient and personal.
However, you don't have to worry about all that with X-Ray Recap. As far as data collection is concerned, it's not collecting anything new.
Amazon has already made it clear that it does collect some data, which includes information provided by the users, such as their searches and recordings from Alexa, device metrics, and other details about the content they're watching.
It's worth noting that the tool (X-Ray) has already been collecting data on the content you watch (this is harmless, by the way), we believe that's enough for X-Ray Recap to give you AI summaries. The bottom line, therefore, is that it no additional data will be collected for the new tool.
