waterfront-bike-lane-map-453x1024.pngThe solid green, blue, purple and magenta lines are bike lanes that have already been built. The dashed magenta line is opening March 8. The dashed green line on Alaskan Way is under construction and expected to open in the summer and connect to the Elliott Bay Trail. The dashed green line on Yesler Way is expected to begin construction in the spring.

The main section of the waterfront bikeway will officially open with a March 8 celebration and bike ride. The ribbon cutting is 10:30 a.m. near Pier 62, then the celebration goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the pier and up and down the bikeway.

Best Side Cycling is also hosting a 5-mile group ride touring the waterfront bikeway that meets 11 a.m. at Lake Union Park near the Westlake bikeway.

The March 8 celebration marks the end of Waterfront Seattle's section of the waterfront bikeway. The bikeway section on Alaskan Way north of Virginia Street is a separate SDOT project and is still under construction. The full connection to Myrtle Edwards Park and the Elliott Bay Trail is expected to open in the summer, though no exact date is yet available. Work on a few blocks of missing bike lanes on Yesler Way in Pioneer Square is set to begin construction in the spring.

More details on the March 8 celebration from Waterfront Seattle:

The protected bike lane along the waterfront will be fully open in early March. Providing a connection for people biking between Pioneer Square and Belltown like never before, the 1.2-mile-long bike lane supports the vision for a greener, more connected cityscape.

In collaboration with Cascade Bicycle Club and Seattle Neighborhood Greenways, we invite you to join us on Pier 62 between 11 AM and 2 PM on Saturday, March 8, to celebrate the protected bike lanes along Seattle's waterfront. We hope you'll join us to learn more about these improvements and what comes next and ride the new bike lane!
