SPORTS BRIEFS: Barons start North Conference title defence Friday

The Hanover Barons and Orillia Terriers begin a seven-game series for the PJHL's North Conference title Friday night inside the P&H Centre in Hanover. Game time is set for 8 p.m. The Barons only lost one game en route to another Pollock Division title and take on a Terriers team that upset a loaded Alliston Hornets squad for the Carruthers Division crown. The Terriers needed just five games to defeat the Hornets. Orillia's Dylan Palomaki is second in playoff scoring thus far with 12 goals and 18 helpers through 14 games. Hanover has its own firepower. Alex McGillvray's 15 goals and 15 assists through 13 games is third in the league, while teammate Mark McIntosh is right behind him with 12 goals and 17 helpers. Barons goaltender Derek Hartley has a 2.45 goals-against average and .921 save percentage in 11 playoff starts. Orillia's Reid Thomas sports a 2.91 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.
