Giants planning private workout with Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders this week: report
The incessant chatter about the Giants' chances of drafting a quarterback with the No. 3 pick still has 10 days of airtime remaining, but it appears the franchise wants to make sure they get one more close look at one of the top signal-callers before April 24 arrives.
According to multiple reports, New York is planning to hold a private workout with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders on Thursday, nearly two weeks after the team sent a massive contingent to watch the 23-year-old's pro day showcase in Boulder.
While debates on the Giants' draft needs have been more fluid since free agents Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston agreed to join their quarterback room in March, the attention toward Sanders still comes as no surprise. New York isn't committed to either veteran beyond the 2025 season.
Sanders' draft stock has fluctuated among draft experts for months, but mixed feelings on his overall makeup and pro potential haven't influenced his status as a first-round talent. He's still projected as a top-10 pick by some, and if the Giants' scouting efforts have been legitimate, he could come off the board at No. 3 -- or even lower, if the team chooses to trade down.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder threw for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games for the Buffaloes this past season. He also tied for 20th nationally in QBR (75.5) and amassed 124 touchdowns with just 27 interceptions across four collegiate seasons.
It's unclear which situation Sanders truly prefers among his current NFL suitors, but he wittingly expressed interest in the Giants a few months ago. His custom-made cleats for Colorado's appearance in the Alamo Bowl featured theteam's logo and colors.
Cameras also caught Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen speaking to Sanders during an East-West Shrine Bowl practice in late January. That weekend, Sanders spoke to the media and called his meetings with the team "very exciting."
