The Cowboys are keeping at least one All-Pro defender in Dallas.
Days after shipping Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in a blockbuster trade, the Cowboys signed cornerback DaRon Bland to a contract extension.
The deal is worth $92 million over four years with $50 million guaranteed, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported Sunday. Bland's average annual salary of $23 million makes him the sixth-highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, the team confirmed.
The 26-year-old Bland burst onto the scene in 2023, his second season, when he led the NFL with nine interceptions. He was named First-Team All-Pro after setting the NFL record of five interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Last season, Bland played just seven games and missed the first 10 contests due to injury. He had no interceptions and 41 tackles at the end of the campaign.
In three seasons with the Cowboys, Bland has 14 interceptions in 41 career games. He was drafted in the fifth round in 2022. Like Parsons, Bland had one year remaining on his rookie contract entering the 2025 season.
The Cowboys were clearly more willing to pay up for Bland's salary compared to Parsons', which ended up being more than double that of his former teammate (four years, $188 million vs. four years, $92 million).
With Bland now locked up and Parsons' offseason saga sorted out, the Cowboys can finally look forward to the 2025 regular season - which kicks off this Thursday, Sept. 4, when they visit the Philadelphia Eagles on NBC and Peacock.
