Giants claim Xavier Gipson after release from Jets

Xavier Gipson, who was released by the Jets earlier this week, has been claimed off waivers by the Giants, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Gipson was the Jets' main punt and kickoff returner from 2023 until Week 1 of this season.

But a gaffe cost him his job with Gang Green.

After the Steelers scored a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to cut the Jets' lead to 26-24, Gipson fumbled the kickoff, giving Pittsburgh the ball back deep in Jets territory. Aaron Rodgers later found Calvin Austin for an 18-yard touchdown, which flipped the game.

The Jets originally signed Gipson as a UDFA in 2023.
