Sunday was a great day for NFL defense, as the slate of Week 3 games saw a record four blocked field goals, all taking place in the fourth quarter of the first window. Per the NFL, it's the most blocked field goals in a single day since 1991.

In a 30-minute span on Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and the Eagles (again) blocked four different field goal attempts. Two of the blocks resulted in a defender returning the kick for a touchdown, while two of the games ended in narrow wins for the blocking team.

The Eagles got the first block of the day early in the fourth quarter, successfully batting down an attempt by Los Angeles Rams kicker Joshua Karty. That turnover got Philadelphia the ball back for a drive that would give them the game-winning touchdown.

About 20 minutes later, it was the Browns, who blocked Green Bay kicker Brandon McManus' 43-yard attempt with 21 seconds left in the game. Cleveland recovered the ball just inside the midline, setting up the game-winning field goal as time expired.

Next, the Eagles did it again. With three seconds on the clock, Philadelphia blocked what would've been a game-winning field goal from Karty. Defensive tackle Jordan Davis then recovered the ball and ran 61 yards to the end zone for one of the greatest big man touchdowns in recent memory.

Finally, just a few minutes after Davis' touchdown, it was the Jets' turn for a block-turned-touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New York defensive end Will McDonald IV nabbed the ball to return it for a touchdown.

Unfortunately for the Jets, it wasn't enough for the win, as Tampa Bay notched a game-winning field goal on the next drive in the final seconds - and this time, New York couldn't block it.

Davis and McDonald's back-to-back touchdown returns are a milestone in their own right. In the past 25 years, there have only been two other times where two blocked field goals were returned for touchdowns on the same day, per Pro Football Reference. (One was last year, on Oct. 6, and the other was on Dec. 23, 2012.)

Overall, NFL defenses shone in Week 3. Four games were decided by one score, with five teams held to 10 or fewer points.
