Fresh off a lopsided loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on national TV to cap an 0-3 start, Giants head coach Brian Daboll declined to commit to Russell Wilson as New York's quarterback.

Daboll was asked multiple times during his Monday news conference to clarify Wilson's status. Each time, he deflected.

We're working through all personnel decisions, and we'll do that over the next few days," Daboll said when asked if Wilson would remain the starter moving forward.

Daboll was then asked to clarify what that meant about Wilson's status as starting quarterback.

We're doing what we normally do, which is watch the tape," Daboll continued. ... "That's where we're at right now."

Daboll was asked again to clarify New York's starting quarterback situation.

We'll look, we're going through the tape right now," Daboll continued. We're evaluating everything."

He was then asked directly if a quarterback change is on the table.

I'd say we're evaluating everything," he said.

It sure sounds like Daboll's considering benching Wilson. In that instance, the Giants would presumably insert first-round rookie Jaxson Dart at quarterback in his place. Daboll and the Giants face the decision ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the 3-0 Los Angeles Chargers.

The Giants signed Wilson as a free agent in March to a one-year deal with a max value of $21.5 million and $10.5 million guaranteed. A month later, they drafted Dart with the No. 25 pick in the NFL Draft out of Mississippi.

The plan was clear. Wilson was there to serve as a stop-gap quarterback before the Giants eventually handed over the reins to Dart. It would be a matter of when, not if. After an 0-3 start in which New York's offense has pinballed from inept to explosive and back to inept, pressure is mounting to speed up that timeline.

Is Russ cooked?

New York was dreadful in a season-opening 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders in which it failed to score a touchdown and Wilson completed just 46% of his pass attempts.

A week later, the Giants came to life in an overtime shootout with the Cowboys that Dallas won, 40-37. Wilson completed 30 of 41 passes for 450 yards with three touchdowns in that game, quieting calls to transition to Dart.

But those calls were quickly renewed Sunday night as the Giants scored a single touchdown in a 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilson completed 56% of his passes for 160 yards (5 yards per attempt) with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Week 2 offensive explosion is largely seen now as a product of Dallas' poor defense more than Wilson's competence as a starter in his 14th NFL season.

A 10-time Pro Bowler, Wilson was one of the NFL's best playmakers in his prime. But with his athleticism sapped, it's been several seasons since he could claim that mantle. See Sunday night's third-down scramble attempt in the red zone against Kansas City:

Pressure's on Daboll

Wilson's struggles have amplified the calls for Dart to start. Is Dart ready after making spot appearances in New York's first three games? Will he make New York's offense better than Wilson does? Who knows? But Giants fans are ready to find out.

Daboll, meanwhile, is likely coaching for his job after surviving last season's hot seat and 3-14 record. Whatever decision he makes at quarterback could dictate his future with the franchise. Though, neither decision is guaranteed to save his job.
