Jets' Aaron Glenn, Breece Hall, Mason Taylor explain RB's game-winning TD pass to rookie TE against Bengals
An unlikely play lifted the Jets to their first win of the 2025 NFL season.
Sunday's 39-38 comeback at the Cincinnati Bengals saw New York take the one-point lead with 1:54 left in the fourth quarter when fourth-year running back Breece Hall's halfback pass to rookie tight end Mason Taylorwent for a touchdown and veteran kicker Nick Folk's subsequently converted extra point.
"Well, that's a call that we've been practicing quite a bit," said Jets coach Aaron Glenn. "I asked (quarterback) Justin (Fields), 'How do you feel about it?' He was like ... 'S--t, coach, it better work. We've been practicing quite a bit, but it better work.' I said, 'Well, all good. Let's run it.' So, those guys were in tune. And at the end of the day, I mean, the way Breece manipulated that whole deal to where, man, it looked like he was going to run and then he gave Mason a chance and Mason went up and made a play."
FOR THE LEAD.

The successful call capped a nine-play, 58-yard drive and resulted in the game-winning score after the Jets (1-7) trailed the Bengals (3-5), 38-24, following Chase Brown's touchdown run with 10:21 to go.
The Jets responded with a five-play, 60-yard touchdown drive that spanned 2:29. It ended on Hall's 27-yard run and Fields' subsequent successful pass to second-year running back Isaiah Davis on the two-point conversation to trail 38-32.
Hall, who attempted 18 rushes for a season-high 133 yards and two touchdowns, added the first passing score of his career when New York needed it most.
"I got the toss and Mason was open at first, but I couldn't see him," he said. "So, in my mind, I'm like, 'I'm going to pump fake it and see if he's still open. If not, I'm going to throw it away.' So, I pump faked it and I saw the defender with his back turned to me and I was like, 'All right, I'm going to just throw it up to Mason and see if he goes and gets it,' and I didn't know he scored, but I turn and look at all the Bengals fans and they were just silently starting at me. I was like, 'All right, we're in it now.'"
Taylor, meanwhile, found the end zone for the first time in his early NFL career.
"I honestly was confused," said Taylor, the No. 42 overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, who caught five passes for 34 yards and the touchdown in what was just his eighth game. "I was open a little earlier. He threw it late. I gave him crap about it. But I thought he was, a little bit, throwing it away. But it just came. It was a great throw. I mean, it was a great throw. Honestly wasn't expecting a running back to throw it like that, but it was a great throw and I just had to make a play."
