SPORTS BRIEFS: Nominations open for Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026
Nominations are now open for the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame's class of 2026. The next induction ceremony will take place on May 8, 2026, at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Nomination forms can be picked up at city hall or completed online by visiting www.owensound.ca. Nominees can be considered in the categories of individual athletes, teams, and sports community builders. All induction criteria and a list of past nominees can be found at www.owensound.ca/sportshalloffame. The Class of 2024 featured athletes Richelle McMann, Ted Abbott, Jamie Simpson, Adam Jones, Adam Mair, and James McLellan; builders Colin Hodson, Norm Long, and Jim Tennant; and the 1966 Owen Sound Crescent Club squad, which won the OASA Pee Wee A' championship. The 1981 Owen Sound Kinsmen Junior A girls' box lacrosse team that won an all-Ontario championship and just fell short of a national title, and the Shark Tank billiards team that became the first Canadians to win the APA World Championship in Las Vegas in 2018, beating out 713 other teams.
