Jets' Tyrod Taylor exits early in loss to Dolphins with groin injury
The Jetsare dealing with yet another quarterback injury, as Tyrod Taylor left midway through the first quarter of Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Dolphins with a groin issue and never returned.
Taylor was initially listed as questionable, but the team downgraded his status to doubtful during the second half. As a result, the offense was handed to undrafted rookie backup Brady Cook, who threw for 163 yards (14 of 30 passing) with one interception in his NFL debut.
Taylor completed just one of four pass attempts between the Jets' first two drives, and the lone miscue on his ledger was a tough-luck interception that deflected off rookie tight end Mason Taylor and was corralled by Dolphins defender Tyrel Dodson upon replay review.
After the game, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn didn't offer much of an update on Taylor's status, but he bemoaned the veteran signal-caller's situation.
"It's tough, especially the way that [Taylor has] been getting these guys involved and the way that he's been working with these guys, trying to build a rapport," Glenn said. "For him to have to leave that early in the game, it's always tough. We've got to get him healthy."
It's unclear when the injury occurred, but Taylor walked to the locker room with trainers after brief time in the sideline medical tent.
If the Jets don't have Taylor available for their Week 15 road matchup against the Jaguars next weekend, they'll need to choose between Cook and Justin Fields, who was inactive this Sunday due to knee soreness.
In six games this season, Taylor has racked up 773 passing yards (60.8 completion percentage) with five touchdowns and four interceptions. The 36-year-old has also rushed for 143 yards on 27 carries with one score.
