Giants place Kayvon Thibodeaux on IR in flurry of roster moves
Kayvon Thibodeaux's season is over.
After missing four straight games due to a shoulder injury, the Giantsdecided to place the pass rusher on injured reserve ahead of their Week 16 matchup with the Vikings.
Thibodeaux played 10 games this season, recording 25 tackles (13 solo), five for loss, and 2.5 sacks. His last game came against the Bears on Nov. 9, when he made three tackles (one solo). It's been tough sledding for Thibodeaux since being drafted by the Giants fifth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. After a very good rookie season, when he recorded four sacks and 49 tackles (33 solo) in 14 games, Thibodeaux finished fourth in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
The following season, Thibodeaux took a major step forward, playing in all 17 games while recording 11.5 sacks and 50 tackles (26 solo). Since then, Thibodeaux has yet to play a full season. He appeared in 12 games (all starts) a year ago and recorded 5.5 sacks and 28 tackles (14 solo), but just 10 this season.
It's been a disappointing year for Thibodeaux as he looked primed to potentially regain his form from a couple of seasons ago. He recorded his 2.5 sacks in the first four games, but has not gotten to the quarterback since, recording just one QB hit since Week 4.
The Giants also made a few moves in addition to Thibodeaux's IR designation. They activated CB Art Green from IR and elevated DL Elijah Chatman and kicker Ben Sauls -- who is taking over for the recently-cut Younghoe Koo.
The Giants host the Vikings this Sunday before finishing the year against the Raiders in Las Vegas and hosting the Cowboys in the season finale.
