He immediately silenced the doubters by throwing for 401 yards and five touchdowns against Stanford in Week 1. In the process, Mensah became just the sixth quarterback since 2000 to complete at least 90% of his passes while throwing for 400 or more yards and five touchdowns in a game. He followed that performance by completing 14 of 15 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns in Miami's 77-7 win over Florida A&M in Week 2. After his historic start, Mensah's Heisman odds surged from +1150 to +550, making him the new favorite. Jeremiah Smith opened his junior season with back-to-back 150-yard receiving games. After recording 164 yards against Texas, Smith now has five career games with at least 150 receiving yards, the most by any FBS player since 2024. He also has six career games with 100 or more receiving yards in the first half, another FBS high over that span. Despite Ohio State's Week 2 loss to Texas, Smith's Heisman odds jumped from +1000 to +650. In Week 1, Manning completed 20 of 27 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns against Texas State before being pulled with the game out of reach. Then, in Week 2, Manning delivered a potential Heisman moment. His numbers didn't jump off the page (195 passing yards and one touchdown), but he led Texas back from a 20-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Ohio State. It was the largest fourth-quarter comeback win over an AP No. 1 team in college football history. CJ Carr entered the college football season as the Heisman favorite. As a true freshman last season, Carr completed 66.6% of his passes for 2,741 yards, 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions. The Notre Dame quarterback has also been sharp to begin 2026, throwing for 492 yards and six touchdowns without an interception. However, after Mensah's dominant start and standout performances from Smith and Manning, Carr has fallen to fourth on the oddsboard, moving from +700 to +1050. In Week 1, 18-year-old wide receiver Malachi Toney made history, setting Miami's single-game receiving record with 234 yards and three touchdowns against Stanford. He followed that performance with four catches for 96 yards and a touchdown in Week 2, all in the first half. Because Miami had a huge lead, Toney did not play in the second half. Following his remarkable start, Toney's Heisman odds have skyrocketed from +4000 to +1300, the biggest jump by any player through the first two weeks.
