This year's edition of the NFL's Scouting Combine has come and gone, concluding with offensive linemen workouts on Sunday in Lucas Oil Stadium. While the skill positions got their opportunity to show out earlier in the weekend, the big nasties in the trenches," as they're affectionately known, put their athleticism and strength on display ahead of next month's NFL Draft in Pittsburgh.

Nine linemen were recorded with a sub-five second 40-yard dash time. That mark is second only to a combine record 12 athletes in 2022. Iowa's Logan Jones clocked the fastest dash for the position group at a flat 4.9 seconds. Utah's Spencer Fano and Arizona State's Max Iheanachor each followed with a 4.91. Fano's teammate, Caleb Lomu measured at a 4.99, the slowest of the under five seconds group.

Not only did the distance speed impress, but the OL groups had a total of five players reach a speed of at least 20.3 mph during their 40-yard dash attempts, according to NFL's Next Gen Stats. Kansas Jayhawk Enrique Cruz led all linemen with a max speed of 20.69 mph. This is a big step up from last year's combine where just Jared Wilson eclipsed that mark with a blazing 21.04 mph dash.

On paper, this class of offensive linemen has the potential to be one of the better groups in recent time. It is increasingly possible that two of these athletes could become future top-ten picks in the upcoming draft. Only time will tell just how impactful these elite measurables will hold up on the field.
