Broncos are attempting to re-sign LB Alex Singleton even after re-signing LB Justin Strnad

According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Denver Broncos are efforting an Alex Singleton deal, even after re-signing Justin Strnad to a three-year, $18 million dollar deal.

At the NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks ago, Denver Broncos General Manager George Paton told reporters that the team would love" to have both Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad back. He added they love to have them back, regardless of the deep linebacker draft class, and that they see these two players as Broncos.

[ILB] Alex [Singleton] and [ILB] Justin [Strnad], we'd love to have those guys back. We'd love to have them back, regardless of what's in the draft. We see those guys as Broncos. If we let those guys leave, what are we doing? Those are good guys, but that doesn't mean we can get them. Everyone is watching tape. You look at both. When you are getting your plan for free agency, you look at the draft and where it's strong there. OK, maybe it's strong at receiver...' It is a balance and you do develop your plan, so it is a good question. With some players, you just want to get back regardless of the strength."

Well, they re-signed Justin Strnad already. Could Singleton be next? It sure seems like they're trying. There were reports this week that the Broncos wanted Singleton back and have already had conversations with his camp, and this report confirms that.

While fans are not the highest on Alex Singleton, the Broncos and his teammates love him. He was voted a team captain, is beloved in the locker room, the team rallied around him during his battle and successful defeat of cancer, and he is the green dot wearer and caller of the Broncos' top-ranked defense. While he may not be the best in coverage and miss some tackles, the Broncos clearly value what he brings to the team and locker room on and off the field.

The question is, does this Strnad re-signing close the door on a Singleton return? He can agree to terms with other teams starting tomorrow when legal tampering opens, so we'll see if the Broncos can get something done with him before then. If he does re-sign, what does this mean for veteran linebacker Dre Greenlaw? The Broncos would have three linebackers making starter money, which likely means one will have to go or take a pay cut. Greenlaw only played 8 games last season, and the Broncos can move on from him without eating much dead money. So, that will be something interesting to watch moving forward.

Legal tampering starts in less than 24 hours, and we'll see what the Broncos do at linebacker, running back, and tight end moving forward.
