Arizona Cardinals have remade their defensive line, but is it enough?
With free agency into day three, which means a lull as teams are now being a little more judicious with their remaining cap space, we have an idea of what the Arizona Cardinals are doing.
They have hit all their needs in free agency, maybe not at high level players, but with solid veterans who have had success in the NFL.
One of the biggest makeovers is the defensive line room.
While we still have no idea on what happened with Walter Nolen, maybe it wasn't a Jonathan Gannon thing(?), we know that they are counting on Nolen and fellow former first round pick Darius Robinson to step up, but they have also added more to the room.
The Cardinals have made it a point to bolster their defensive line depth in free agency. That group now includes:
- Theo Mackie (@theo_mackie) March 12, 2026
-Walter Nolen
-Darius Robinson
-Dante Stills
-Roy Lopez
-LJ Collier
-PJ Mustipher
-Jonah Williams
They brought back both Collier and Mustipher, then they also brought back Lopez, who had a very strong season with the Detroit Lions, earning him a nice pay raise.
Then we saw yesterday they signed veteran defensive tackle Jonah Williams, which gave some fans a small heart attack before they looked at his position listing.
So, the Cardinals depth chart will likely look like:
- LDE - Walter Nolen III, LJ Collier
- NT - Roy Lopez, PJ Mustipher
- RDE - Darius Robinson, Dante Stills, Jonah Williams
The question becomes... is this an improvement on where they were last year? I think the idea is that Nolen and Robinson have to take a step and show something (Nolen by staying healthy and Robinson by... well playing well).
I get it, you have to see if your first round picks pan out, but this feels like a really boom or bust position group right now. They either have solid starters with guys who have proven to be good NFL depth, or they are asking depth/rotational pieces to start.
What are your thoughts?
