Seahawks to give Super Bowl ring to waived player from last season

The moments after winning a Super Bowl are pure euphoria for fans and players alike, uniting everyone from the starting quarterback to practice squad players under one title: Super Bowl Champions.

However, there are always a few odd instances of players who spent significant time with the team, but didn't finish the year on the roster. One such case this year was Seattle Seahawks safety D'Anthony Bell, who was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers after making 14 appearances for Seattle.

Are these players still united under that title? Should they get a Super Bowl ring? Well, at least in the case of Bell, the answer is yes. ESPN reporter Brady Henderson reported on Tuesday morning that Bell would be receiving a Super Bowl ring from the Seahawks.

A side note on D'Anthony Bell: I'm told he's getting a Super Bowl ring despite not finishing the season with Seattle. The Seahawks are doing right by a player who was one of their top special teams contributors before Carolina claimed him off waivers in Week 18.

It's a needed feel-good moment for Bell, who has taken a difficult road to the NFL after playing at two junior colleges and two Division II schools before going undrafted into the league out of West Florida. Bell worked his way onto the Cleveland Browns roster that offseason and did it all for the team, including kicking, in his three-year stint there.

The Seahawks signed Bell last offseason, placing him in a special teams role where he thrived. In his 14 appearances, he recorded 0.5 sacks, 15 tackles and blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints.

While he finished last season with the Panthers, there won't be any awkward ring exchanges next season as the Seahawks re-signed Bell on March 24.
