Kansas City made it to the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons between 2015 and 2024, but last year wasn't its year, as it finished the regular season 6-11 and shockingly missed the postseason. On top of that, Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL in Week 15. Well, all of that is a thing of the past, as the Chiefs are 5-0 this season, including 3-0 in the division, with wins over every team in the AFC West. And while Mahomes has been good through five games, it has been newly-acquired running back Kenneth Walker III who has been carrying the load. Walker III has rushed for 665 yards in five games, averaging 133 rushing yards per game. Over 17 games, that puts him on pace for 2,261 rushing yards, which would break Eric Dickerson's NFL single-season record of 2,105 set in 1984. Walker is also averaging an NFL-best 6.3 yards per carry. Kansas City has second-best odds in the AFC to make the playoffs, only trailing the Bills. Texans Back?: Houston entered the season as one of the Super Bowl favorites, but an 0-4 start sent its playoff odds tumbling. The Texans have since bounced back with two straight wins, including a huge victory over the AFC South-favorite Jaguars in London. C.J. Stroud appears to be rediscovering his rookie-year form, ranking second in the NFL in passing yards with nine touchdowns and just one interception. If the defense can return to last season's level, watch out. Needing A Charger: The Chargers entered the season among the favorites to win the AFC. Now, after an 0-6 start, they are in major danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in the Jim Harbaugh era. Los Angeles has now lost nine straight games dating back to Week 16 of 2025. The last time the Chargers started 0-6 was in 2000 when they started 0-11. During that season, Harbaugh was the starting quarterback. Justin Herbert is now the only QB since 2020 with an interception in each of the first six games of a season. Herbert leads the NFL with 8 interceptions, and the Chargers are now +4600 to make it to the playoffs. 49ers: -7000Vikings: -750Bears: -215Seahawks: -178Lions: -150Packers: -142Panthers: -140Rams: -120Cowboys: +104Giants: +200Falcons: +215Saints: +400Commanders: +460Eagles: +500Buccaneers: +570Cardinals: +3100 Last Year's Field: Seahawks (1), Bears (2), Eagles (3), Panthers (4), Rams (5), 49ers (6), Packers (7) Gold Rush: The 49ers are off to a 6-0 start, with wins over the Rams, Broncos and Seahawks. They are the first team since the 1981 Broncos to record three wins in their first five games against teams that reached a conference championship game the previous season. The 49ers are 6-0 for the second time under Kyle Shanahan. They last started 6-0 in 2019, when they reached the Super Bowl. Brock Purdy has impressed, throwing 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions through six games, and the 49ers defense might be the most improved unit in the entire league. Purdy now officially holds the highest career passer rating in NFL history (105.7). He reached the minimum of 1,500 pass attempts to qualify for the leaderboard in Monday's win over the Commanders. With the Niners strengthening their grip on the division and the entire NFC, their odds of making the playoffs shortened from -2500 to -7000. Biggest Surprises: The Rams entered the season as heavy Super Bowl favorites, but their first six weeks could not have gone much worse. L.A. is now 2-4 after losing at home as 12.5-point favorites to the Cardinals, the biggest upset of the season so far. Davante Adams is also now out for 6-10 weeks, and Myles Garrett remains on injured reserve. The last preseason Super Bowl favorite to miss the playoffs was New England in 2008. Despite the losing record, the Rams remain favored to make the postseason at -120. Meanwhile, the Eagles have lost four straight games, each seemingly more painful than the last. After a promising 2-0 start, Philadelphia has dropped its next four for the first time in franchise history. It's also the Eagles' first four-game losing streak since 2020. To make matters worse, Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the regular season. Philly is now heavily favored to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
