Chargers hosting former Browns TE David Njoku

The Chargers have their young tight end for the future in Oronde Gadsden II and recently signed former Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar who is expected to be heavily utilized as a run blocker. Still, the Chargers are continuing to look at filling out their tight end room as they're hosting former Browns tight end David Njoku for a visit on Monday, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The 29-year old Njoku had a down year in 2025 due to the emergence of rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. Njoku finished this past season with 33 receptions for 293 receiving yards and four touchdowns. All three stats are the least in a season for him since 2020 when posted 19 catches for 213 yards and two scores.

Adding a veteran like Njoku to the room sounds like an overall positive move for the Chargers, but it could muddy up the pecking order of the group until we see just how Mike McDaniel wants to deploy his players. Multiple-tight end sets have only seen an increase in usage in recent years so it's not surprising for a team to want three usable players.

In the scenario they should sign Njoku, Kolar would likely take more of a backseat as a pass catcher, but I don't think that would mean he'd see a huge drop in expected snaps. Kolar was a very highly-regarded acquisition by the Chargers and I would be very shocked to see him play anywhere near the same role in Baltimore. Still, more good players on the team is never a bad thing.
