Aaron Glenn explains why Breece Hall extension was ‘extremely important’ for Jets

When the Jets placed the franchise tag on Breece Hall earlier this offseason, they did so looking to create more time to draw up a contract extension.

Hall's name ended up popping up in trade rumors at times over next few months, but neither side ever grew too concerned about a potential separation.

Then earlier this month they were finally able to come to terms on a new deal, as the Jets locked up Hall on a $45.75 million pact for the next three years.

Despite the uncertainty, this outcome was always the priority for Gang Green.

It was extremely important," Aaron Glenn said at Thursday's OTA's. He's somebody that we wanted to be here -- I've talked about it for a while how good of a player he is for us.

To be able to get that done and to get that out of his mind so that he can just go out there and play his game now, that's always a good thing for us."

Hall has battled his share of injuries over the years, but he's remained a weapon in the run and pass games, producing 1,350 yards from scrimmage each of the past three seasons.

The hope is that he'll be able to continue that with Geno Smith under center this year.

Glenn said that the quarterback and running back worked out together frequently over the offseason, and he's looking forward to watching them continue to build a connection during OTAs.

With Smith and some of the other offseason additions the team was able to make on offense, Hall feels that he can truly take his game to another level this season.

"I feel like they've put me in position, with all of the guys that we've brought in and the team we're building here, to really flourish and be myself," he said after signing the extension.

"God-willing we are able to stay healthy and everything goes to plan, I feel like this could be my best season."
