NY Giants news: Giants sign receiver/returner Braxton Berrios
The New York Giants have signed receiver and returner Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal, per reports.
The Giants receiving corps has been hit hard by injuries, with Gunner Olszewski suffering a torn Achilles, Darius Slayton sidelined as he recovers from surgery to repair a core muscle injury, and Malik Nabers' ongoing recovery from ACL and meniscus surgery.
The Giants held a group workout Monday morning and it seemed likely that at least one of the veteran wideouts would be a Giant by the end of the day.
Berrios, 30, is a natural fit for the role vacated by the injury to Gunner Olszewski. Berrios is an undersized receiver at 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, and has made his name as a special teams ace since entering the NFL in 2018 with the New England Patriots. He only has 140 receptions for 1,360 yards and 6 touchdowns since 2019, but has been an excellent returner. He has 100 punt returns, averaging 11.3 yards per return, as well as 91 kick returns with an average of 24.9 yards per return.
The question with Berrios, and why he's still available, is his health. He's only played in 10 games over the last two years after tearing his ACL in 2024. That the Giants signed him after a workout and physical is a good sign on that front.
