Please no: Seahawks nemesis Aaron Donald ‘flirting with the idea’ of Rams return
When the Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams trade was announced, a collective groan from NFC West rivals could be heard because the thought of the Rams having the best defensive lineman in the sport conjured up memories of one Aaron Donald.
A dominant force throughout the 2010s, Donald terrorized franchises, none more than the Seattle Seahawks. A lone bright spot of this trade was the fact that Donald had retired in 2024, so Seahawks fans were saved from the thought of those two pairing up. As it turns out, we might not be as free as we thought.
Once the trade was announced, the rumors of Donald unretiring for a Last Dance" esque run with the Rams were swirling. However, the man himself confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that there is a kernel of truth in rumors.
I'm for sure flirting with the idea," Donald texted NFL reporter Jordan Schultz. Helluva an opportunity with the Super Bowl in SoFi this year. If I can find the fire, it's a possibility."
For the sake of Anthony Bradford and Gray Zabel, let's hope that Donald's fire stays extinguished.
Donald was nothing short of a Seahawks killer throughout his career, recording 15.5 of his 111 career sacks en route to a 13-5 overall record against Seattle. Perhaps Donald's most infamous moment against the Seahawks came in 2021, when he made contact with the finger of Russell Wilson, injuring the Seahawks star in what was his final year as a Seahawk.
As a likely first-ballot Hall of Famer, Donald's clock would be reset if he were to unretire. He'd also need a new deal, as the six-year extension signed in 2018 is up. We'll see if any of that matters, but I think for all of Seahawks fans when I say I'd prefer if Donald stayed on the couch in 2026.
