Falcons acquire Wanya Morris in trade with Chiefs to strengthen offensive line depth

The Falcons are reinforcing their offensive line.

The Chiefs are trading offensive lineman Wanya Morris and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Atlanta in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick, ESPN reported Thursday.

In three seasons in Kansas City, Morris started 16 games at right tackle. But last year, he only started one as he began to slide down the depth chart.

At practices in recent days, Morris, who was taken in the third round of the 2023 draft after the Chiefs traded up, saw a lot of his time on the scout squads making way for younger players, The Athletic reported.

In the end, the Chiefs get some draft capital, while the Falcons pick up a player who will help their offensive line. It also gives Morris a chance to earn playing time.

Right now, Morris likely slots in as the second right tackle on the depth chart behind former Chiefs teammate Jawaan Taylor.

The other right tackle veteran, Storm Norton, was placed on the physically unable to perform list on Thursday.

The Falcons need to do everything they can to protect quarterbacks.

Michael Penix Jr. is coming off surgery for a partially torn ACL in 2025. The Falcons, earlier this offseason, also picked up another quarterback with an injury history in former Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa.

Both the Chiefs and Falcons are looking to make the playoffs after missing out in 2025.

The Falcons were closer, losing out on the NFC South title on the final day. The Chiefs, who just came off a Super Bowl appearance in 2024, went on a six-game losing skid to end with a 6-11 record. It ended Kansas City's 10-year playoff streak.
