The Buffalo Bills have released veteran wide receiver Jalen Virgil with a non-football injury (NFI) designation, per the NFL's transaction wire report on Thursday, July 30. This comes after ESPN Bills reporter Alaina Getzenberg shared news that Virgil didn't pass his physical to start training camp and wasn't with the team on day one at St. John Fisher University.

Virgil last appeared in a regular-season game with the Bills in 2024, accounting for one fumble recovery and two tackles amid the seven game appearances and 37 total offensive snaps (per Pro Football Reference). His best attributes were as a blocker, evidenced by the lack of a single passing target sent his way.

With Tyrell Shavers on the Active/PUP list to begin training camp and Virgil being an NFI release, the team has a need for new blood in the wide receivers room. To that end, the Bills worked out five players after Thursday's practice.

Among those in for tryouts Thursday were three wide receivers in KhaDarel Hodge, Dante Pettis, and Isaiah Winstead. Buffalo also tired out a pair of defensive backs in Bryce Hall and D.J. Miller. The Bills do not practice on Friday, July 31, returning to the fields at Fisher early on Saturday, August 1.
