Jets' Mason Taylor 'excited' to play alongside Kenyon Sadiq: 'We're building something special in that tight end room'
Jetstight end Mason Taylor's development over his rookie season was one of the bright spots during their rough 2025 season. So it may have come as a bit of a surprise to see the team use the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on another tight end, Kenyon Sadiq out of Oregon.
Luckily, Taylor believes in New York's vision.
"I was excited. It's great for our team, makes the room better, the competition better," Taylor told reporters Saturday about his reaction to the team drafting Sadiq. "He's a great kid. He's came in here and learned fast, he's asked questions. It's exciting. It opens the door for all of us, I think that's the best part of it. We're just all excited about it."
He added on Sadiq: "I've seen him make plays all over the field, so it's definitely exciting. That's why I said I was really excited, adding that to the room is a special piece and I think we're building something special in that tight end room."
Taylor went on to say that new offensive coordinator Frank Reich is going to have lots of fun developing the offense with two playmaking tight ends.
"Coach Reich, he's going to have a hell of a time scheming for our offense," Taylor said. "I mean we got a bunch of skill in the room, not just him. He's smooth, he's quick, he's athletic as hell. One of us can be in line, one of us can be out wide, vice versa... We got endless options and that's what makes it so exciting to work with. Coach Reich is going to put those pieces together. It's our job to go out here and practice and prove what we can do, expand out skillset so we can put in the right place at the right time."
With two tight end formations becoming more popular in the league over recent seasons, the Jets pairing Taylor and Sadiq together fits into that trend. When asked about the rise of tight end usage, Taylor expressed his belief in him, Sadiq, and the rest of the tight end group becoming "pretty dangerous" for opponents.
"Like I said, there's endless opportunities," Taylor said. "And it's our job in practice to kind of display what we can do in 12-personell, 13-personell, and all these multiple sets. At the end of the day, you want to dictate what the defense puts out there. If they want to put out nickel, we'll run the ball. If they want out to put out base, we'll throw the ball. We could throw the ball versus nickel-2, we got Sadiq, Ruck [Jeremey Ruckert], Jelani [Woods], myself.
"There's endless opportunities like I said. If we can be that wildcard which they don't know what we're going to do, we're going to be pretty dangerous."
