Steelers release statement following Aaron Rodgers’ Anthony Fauci comments
The Pittsburgh Steelers held their first padded practice on Monday, which also featured a live broadcast of The Pat McAfee Show in Latrobe.
Following practice, several Steelers joined the program, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers touched on several matters, including his relationship with his teammates and Year Two in Pittsburgh. However, it was the non-football issues that Rodgers commented on that made headlines.
When asked about his mindset coming into his last season, Rodgers took a jab at Dr. Anthony Fauci.
I'm gonna plead the fifth," Rodgers said. Like that absolute coward Tony Fauci. Absolute coward. Are you kidding me... what are you scared of, Tony? I thought you were the science."
In a statement issued to WTAE in Pittsburgh, Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten said that players are entitled to their opinions.
Discussions around culture and politics can bring differing perspectives, and our players areentitled to their own personal views," Lauten said . With respect to that, I am certain there are a variety of opinions on many topics within our locker room."
The Steelers will be back on the practice field Tuesday.
