This evening I a heartfelt social media posting former Bulldog great Nick Chubb announced his retirement after eight NFL seasons.

The Ground Hound from Cedartown was of course one of the defining players of the Kirby Smart era at Georgia, helping lead the Bulldogs to their first national title game appearance in over 30 years in 2017. And his NFL career showed real promise, with four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances between 2019 and 2022.

But injuries from both his college and NFL careers eventually caught up with him. Truth be told eight seasons is actually a long career for an NFL tailback, and St. Nick was seriously productive when he was on the field as a pro, much as he had been in college. Chubb finishes his career with 7349 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns on the ground, numbers that are each third all-time in Browns history behind Cleveland greats Leroy Kelly and Jim Brown.Chubb's rushing yardage total also places him 67th all-time on the NFL rushing yards list, not a bad achievement by any stretch.

Now at 30 Chubb moves on to life after football, which I expect him to excel at with the same mix of toughness and talent he exhibited so often between the chalk lines. Our sincere congratulations on a great career, and whatever comes next, for a Damn Good Dawg.
