Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver, his family and team are mourning the loss of his 2-year-old son.

The Bills released a statement to express their grief. The team did not disclose what happened to Oliver's son, but the Buffalo News reported that the child died in a drowning at the family's home in suburban Houston on June 28.

"On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son. It's an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said.

The 28-year-old Oliver is attempting to bounce back from a difficult 2025 season in which he only played three games because of an ankle injury and a torn biceps.

Oliver also missed a joint practice with the Cleveland Browns this week due to an unspecified injury.

Oliver was Buffalo's first-round selection, ninth overall, in the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Houston. In 95 games, he has recorded 30 sacks and eight forced fumbles.
