49ers, Saints make trade heading into final week of NFL preseason
Forget the "Sunday scaries." What about a Sunday swap?
The New Orleans Saints are sending linebacker Deion Jones to the San Francisco 49ers for running back Zamir White, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It represents a swap of depth pieces for each team as the final week of the NFL preseason nears.
Jones, who was best known for his time as an Atlanta Falcon, will reunite with Raheem Morris in San Francisco. Morris was hired as the Niners' defensive coordinator to replace Robert Saleh, who became the Tennessee Titans head coach this offseason.
As for White, he'll be some added insurance in the Saints running back room. Alvin Kamara is dealing with a knee injury as the regular season nears, meaning White's addition will take some of the load off Travis Etienne Jr. and Kendre Miller.
White previously played for the Las Vegas Raiders and was primarily a backup for the last four seasons.

Etienne was signed in free agency to be the lead running back for New Orleans and this trade doesn't change that. Kamara figures to split time with Etienne when healthy, while Miller serves as added depth.
Neal suffered a hamstring injury during the Saints' preseason loss to the Rams on Aug. 22, leaving little depth in the backfield for the remainder of the preseason.
White's addition profiles as a way to help the Saints get through the remainder of training camp, but could result in a spot on the 53-man roster if the other running backs can't get healthy in time.
