Saints trade LB Deion Jones for RB Zamir White

The New Orleans Saints are trading linebacker Deion Jones to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for running back Zamir White, per Adam Schefter. The Saints signed Jones just two weeks ago.

Jones first appeared for the Saints in their preseason loss to the Los Angeles Rams, logging one tackle. Despite being a journeyman in the latter part of his career, Jones has quite the resume, logging 761 tackles, 5 forced fumbles, 13 interceptions, and 12 sacks.

In return, New Orleans received fifth-year running back Zamir White. With Devin Neal suffering an injury in his preseason debut and Alvin Kamara expected to miss at least one month, the Saints bring in White for insurance.

Over his career, the former 2022 fourth-round pick has logged 736 rushing yards with the Las Vegas Raiders, averaging 3.7 yards per carry. White has also logged 152 receiving yards on 25 receptions.

Both White and Jones were in their first years with their new teams and will get better playing opportunities with the swap. Jones reunites with former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, and White gets a chance to compete for a roster spot on a relatively unhealthy Saints running back room.

The player-for-player swap isn't unusual during this time of the season, and the Saints did a similar exchange last preseason. New Orleans traded away veteran defensive tackle Khalen Saunders to the Jacksonville Jaguars for center Luke Fortner. The trade worked out well for the black and gold as Fortner started 10 games for the Saints due to injuries.
