A Hanging Garden With Luminous Mechanical Flowers That Bloom Inside a Historic French Church

Lonneke Gordijn of Studio DRIFT discussed the inspiration behind their project Meadow, an inverted, suspended garden of luminous mechanical flowers that slowly open and close in a soothing rhythm. This immersive kinetic installation blooms within the historic walls of the Sainte-Croix-des-Pelletiers church in Rouen, France, through September 27, 2026.

With *Meadow*, an inverted landscape comes to life above visitors: luminous mechanical flowers open and close in a delicate choreography, offering a moment of contemplation in the heart of a suspended garden.

Like their Shylight project, Meadow was inspired by natural phenomena and the rhythms and movements of the living world.
