Packers open Week 2 as favorites against Jets

The Green Bay Packers may have made history with their collapse against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1, but that does not mean that they are going to be underdogs in Week 2. Indeed, the opening lines at FanDuel sportsbook have the Packers installed as 4.5-point favorites for their road trip to play the New York Jets next Sunday.

Green Bay's 0-1 start was due, in large part, to the team's struggles on the offensive line. Facing a Vikings defense that blitzed over 75 percent of the time, the interior of the line struggled massively, leading to four 4th-quarter sacks and a pair of turnovers. Those giveaways gifted the Vikings great field position, leading to multiple scores as they ran away with a 39-22 victory.

The Jets, on the other hand, started the season 1-0 with a road victory. However, theirs comes with a caveat: it came against the Tennessee Titans, who might well be in line to earn the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft for the second time in three years. The Jets won 23-10 on Sunday afternoon, sacking Cam Ward three times and getting a 100-yard day on the ground from running back Breece Hall.

The Packers' defense actually held up largely well for most of the game in Minnesota when not dealing with a short field. They also largely bottled up the Vikings' running game, allowing 3.1 yards per carry for the game, a number that is even inflated due to a single 28-yard run by Jordan Mason. Compared to late last year, this unit looks improved through one game, though they started to struggle late in the game with wide zone and stretch runs, including that long gain.

The Packers and Jets combined to score 45 points in their week one games, which is right on the books' expectation. The over/under total points line for the matchup comes in at 44.5, which combined with the point spread suggests that they expect about a 24-20 victory for the Packers.
