49ers’ RB Christian McCaffrey can surpass a Jerry Rice milestone Sunday

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is well on his way to being fitted for a gold jacket. He can inch one step closer as early as this Sunday by surpassing a pair of all-time greats in the record books.

McCaffrey has 98 scrimmage touchdowns (62 rushing, 36 receiving) in 113 career games. This Sunday, against the Miami Dolphins, McCaffrey can surpass none other than Jerry Rice (115 games) as the fourth-fastest player to reach 100 scrimmage touchdowns in the Super Bowl era.

The only players to reach this mark in fewer games are a pair of Hall of Famers, LaDainian Tomlinson (89 games) and Emmitt Smith (93 games), as well as Shaun Alexander (96 games).

That's not the only record McCaffrey can break in Week 2. Additionally, McCaffrey can surpass Marshal Faulk (36 touchdown receptions) for the most touchdown receptions by a running back in the Super Bowl era.

McCaffrey failed to reach the end zone in Week 1, but the matchup is appetizing for him against the Dolphins come Sunday. Second-year back Ashton Jeanty had two touchdown receptions through the air last week against Miami. Jeanty combined for 147 yards from scrimmage on 29 touches.

If Week 1 is any indication, McCaffrey won't have that kind of volume, but he shouldn't need it to score twice.
