The six-time All-Pro updated his injury on Monday as the club begins preparations for the cross-country trip to take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 3.
Derwin James said he fractured his pinky finger on his left hand. He'll play the rest of the season in a cast

Despite fracturing the pinky against the Raiders, James still appeared on 52 defensive snaps, the second-most of any Chargers player on that side of the ball. He's always been one of the tougher defensive backs in football.
He's regularly been darn disruptive too.
Now 30, James was a second-team All-Pro the past two seasons.
Through two contests this year, James has 17 tackles and one pass breakup.
At 6'2" and 215 pounds, the former All-American from Florida State remains one of the NFL's most dangerous swiss-army knives in the secondary. He's an elite blitzer, tackler, and coverage defender.
It'll be interesting to see how sizable his cast is, and monitor whether it hinders his ability to make plays on the football against the Bills in Week 3 (and for the remainder of the season).
