Steelers surprisingly release young cornerback

Slaughter was put on the team's practice squad after a strong preseason and was elevated to the main roster ahead of Week 1 in light of Joey Porter Jr being inactive, and was signed to the active roster on October 1. He has appeared in all four games for the Steelers thus far.
Slaughter signed with the Steelers on a futures deal back in January. In 56 collegiate games with Arkansas and Tennessee, he picked off two passes, 167 tackles, and 8.5 tackles for loss.
The Steelers are notably thin at the cornerback position, which led them to sign veteran Sean Murphy-Bunting to the active roster. They also added linebacker Marte Mapu to the practice squad ahead of Week 5, where they will host the Indianapolis Colts.
