Ripple Custody version 1.43 adds support for the Canton Network, confirmed by Canton Network on X on October 7, 2026, letting banks and funds hold and transfer Canton assets inside the custody platform they already run. The update shipped October 5, 2026, according to coverage of the release documentation.

Bring your own validator

The integration follows a bring-your-own-validator model: clients connect the custody platform to validators they or their node providers already operate. The design point that matters to a bank procurement desk is what Ripple does not touch. Signing keys remain in the customer's own vault, whether that is a hardware security module (HSM) or a key management service (KMS), so Ripple never holds the keys that authorize a Canton transaction.

Existing custody policies and approval workflows carry over to every Canton transaction on the platform. The release adds pre-approvals for incoming assets and two-step transfer offers, and prepared transactions come with a 24-hour signing window before they go stale, giving approvers a full day to review and sign.

What banks can custody today

Institutions can hold and transfer Canton Coin (CC), also known as Amulet, along with any CIP-56 tokens issued through the Digital Asset Registry. CIP-56 is the token standard used for assets created on Canton, and it supports atomic delivery-versus-payment settlement without cross-chain bridges.

Canton itself is a public Layer 1 blockchain developed by Digital Asset, offering sub-transaction privacy, in which each participant sees only its own data, on a structure the network describes as a network of networks." Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas and BNY Mellon reportedly use Canton infrastructure, while Broadridge reportedly processes multibillion-dollar repo transactions on it daily and DTCC tokenizes U.S. Treasuries on its rails.

An early, API-only first step

The support is deliberately narrow for now. Canton access works only through the API, with no direct support for arbitrary Canton application commands or delivery-versus-payment (DvP) workflows, so institutions running the full settlement pattern on Canton still need separate plumbing. On deployment, the integration works with both on-premises installations and hybrid SaaS environments.

Ripple did not include pricing for the update in the release material, and neither Ripple nor Digital Asset offered a public comment.
