Commanders vs. Giants Thursday injury report: Sam Cosmi approaching return

Commanders right guard Sam Cosmi didn't make the trip to London for that Week 4 contest against the Indianapolis Colts. He was in the concussion protocol and ruled out early in the week while recovering from a vicious hit delivered by his own teammate, when running back Kaytron Allen inadvertently ran into him.

Missing one of the NFL's best guards was an issue in the running game especially, with rookie Matt Gulbin struggling as his replacement.

Cosmi was a full participant in Thursday's practice and spoke to the media afterward, signaling what should be considered a high probability that he'll play.

That would be a huge boon for the Commanders, who need stability and quality working for them up front. Cosmi talked about the scary concussion this season in an interview with 7News reporter Scott Abraham, especially after he suffered one last year.

Guard/center Nick Allegretti was unavailable with hip and Achilles injuries after being limited the day before. Receivers Stefon Diggs and Terry McLaurin missed a second straight practice with hamstring injuries; not having either of those players for Sunday's game versus the Giants would be a significant setback. Diggs was spotted at practice, while McLaurin wasn't there for the second day this week.

Safety Nick Cross went from full to limited participation, which is an eyebrow raiser at this point of the week.
