Roundup of bike-friendly 2026 general election endorsements: Stand up for transit and trans kids!

IMG_7095-750x563.jpegMy spouse Kelli and child Fiona voting by bike in 2021. It's an oldie but so cute. Whenever I vote, I vote for Fiona's future.

The Nov. 3 general election is pivotal for the future of bicycling due to current hostility toward bike infrastructure funding at the federal level and gloomy budget forecasts at the state level," writes Washington Bikes on their election endorsements page. So we need to make sure that our senators and representatives understand that safe streets are needs, not nice-to-haves. There are also several transit-funding measures on the ballot, including in Seattle. Vote HELL YES!

We also need a huge turnout against a slate of conservative statewide initiatives that would force the state to bully vulnerable children, especially trans kids. Vote HELL NO! on 001 and 638. May as well reject 645 (effort to sort of repeal the Millionaires Tax) while you're at it and torch all these conservative ballot measures funded by the ultra-wealthy.

Registered voters with up-to-date addresses should have received their 2026 general election ballots in the mail (or should receive one very soon). Below you will find a roundup of which candidates have earned endorsements from three respected organizations with a focus on bicycling and safe streets: Transportation for Washington (T4W), the Transit Riders Union (TRU), the Urbanist (URB) and Washington Bikes (WB). The Urbanist has again gone above and beyond by explaining their reasoning behind each pick, so I highly recommend reading what they have to say if you want to better understand a certain item on this list. If an org did not list an endorsement, I also did not list them. But if an org specifically said No endorsement," then I did include that. Note that some of the orgs don't endorse in uncontested races, in case you're wondering why Shaun Scott and Brianna Thomas got so few endorsements.

The most-contested Seattle races among these orgs are 43rd District Senate (T4W and WB went for Pedersen, TRU and URB went for Sabio-Howell) and 46th District Position 1 Representative (T4W went for Pollet while everyone else conspicuously did not endorse). If you are voting in either of these two races, I recommend diving deeper than just a cheat sheet and reading what a couple sources have to say about them. The dynamics of each race are both somewhat unusual.

If you do not complete your ballot and get it back in the mail very soon, consider using a ballot dropbox instead of the postal service in case the Trump administration successfully delays ballot postmarking as they have said they would.
