CME Group marked the first trades in its new Uniswap and Bitcoin Cash futures on October 20, 2026, in the announcement of the first trade on its press room.

Uniswap called UNI the first DeFi protocol token with futures on the exchange, saying in a post on X: UNI is now the first DeFi protocol token with futures on @CMEGroup." The claim is specific to CME: DeFi tokens have long traded as perpetual futures on offshore venues, but none had carried a contract on the US derivatives exchange before. The listing gives institutional traders a regulated, cleared way to hedge or take exposure to UNI without touching a decentralized exchange directly.

CME Group confirmed on X that both contracts are officially live, with the inaugural block trade executed between crypto market makers FalconX and GSR.

A year of steady expansion

The UNI and Bitcoin Cash listings cap a busy year for CME's crypto derivatives desk. The exchange has been building out its crypto derivatives suite all year, reportedly adding contracts on Cardano, Chainlink and Stellar in January, and the new listings push the lineup further past its original Bitcoin and Ether core. Chief executive Terry Duffy has also flagged perpetual futures, prediction markets and around-the-clock trading as areas of exchange focus.

A block trade, the format CME used to mark the launch, is a privately negotiated derivatives deal executed away from the open market but cleared through the exchange, a common way to open a new contract with a large, known counterparty. That two established crypto market makers, FalconX and GSR, took the first trade points to early institutional liquidity in the contracts.

DeFi infrastructure itself has a mixed security record: a study of flash loan attacks found logic exploits drained $1.2 billion from decentralized finance over four years, a reminder that regulated exposure to a protocol token does not remove the protocol's own risks.

A smaller contract for smaller traders

Beyond the standard UNI contract, CME Group also lists a Micro UNI futures product, a smaller-sized contract aimed at retail and smaller traders, on its product page.
