Seattle Police released a still image of the suspect's vehicle, a silver or gray 2012-14 Toyota Camry, last seen speeding away and running red lights to flee the scene without stopping to render aid to the victim. The Camry would have had damage to the right side of the hood, right side of the windshield, and right side of the front bumper," according to SPD, Detectives say that the damage will be obvious and difficult to be hidden."
There is a bus-only lane that becomes a right turn lane in places on this section of Aurora, and even though it is an uncomfortable street to ride it is common to see people biking either in the bus lane or on the sidewalk. Police received calls about the collision at 12:17 a.m., and investigators said Sagarra was biking southbound when the driver struck him from behind. The SPD Blotter post also noted that detectives were trying to determine what led up to the assault."
The incident occurred within the stretch of Aurora that Washington State lawmakers designated for safety improvements in 2022. The Urbanist reported this week that things remain stuck in the planning stage, despite legislative direction in 2022 targeting upgrades between N 90th Street and N 105th Street as a demonstration project that would pave the way for changes elsewhere."
