GlobalFoundries completes IBM microelectronics acquisition

GlobalFoundries has completed its acquisition of IBM's microelectronics division. The deal, which was announced late last year, transfers control of IBM's foundries in East Fishkill, New York and Essex Junction, Vermont to GlobalFoundries. GloFo also gets the division's personnel, over 16,000 patents, and $1.5 billion in cash as consideration for taking over, as well as a 10-year exclusive agreement to supply chips to IBM.
