Darren Moffat, who led the original effort to include an SSH implementation in Solaris,announcedthat the SunSSH fork would be phased out in favor of OpenSSH:

We have regularly resynced for features and bug fixes with OpenSSH, but SunSSH remains a fork.

Starting with Solaris 11.3 we supply OpenSSH in addition to SunSSH. The intent is that in some future release SunSSH will be removed leaving only OpenSSH.

This is one more data point among several that major players in the proprietary part of the IT landscape find real value in the technology coming out of OpenBSD, and that tracking the source closely helps their own innovation. Another recent case in point is the news of , reported here recently.
