Queensland's government is launching an investigation into how it deals with injured cassowaries after the "regrettable" killing of one of the endangered birds.
The emaciated female cassowary, found in the Atherton Tablelands, was put down this week because the Garners Beach cassowary rehabilitation centre at Mission Beach admits chicks only.
