A Western Australian council has voted unanimously to scrap plans for a rubbish dump near a significant numbat habitat, a move hailed by conservationists as a win for biodiversity.
On Thursday night, councillors from the shire of Cuballing, about 190km south-east of Perth, voted to accept a decision by the tip's proponents to withdraw their development application to avoid the hefty costs of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) review.
